TeachingLD cares about protecting your online privacy. To let you know
how we collect and use your information, we have established the following
privacy policy. Since this policy may change from time to time, please
refer to it regularly.
WHO WE ARE
TeachingLD is owned and operated by the Division for Learning Disabilities
(DLD) of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). To learn more about
our organization, visit About Us.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We do not use any information about where you personally go on our Site,
nor do we give such information out to third parties; except in aggregate
format, and we do not give out your name or other personal information,
unless you authorize us to do so.
Personal
Information Supplied by You
There are various areas on our Site where we either require or permit
you to transfer personal information voluntarily. We use this personal
information only for the specific purpose specified at the time you input
such information. In addition, we never divulge such information to third
parties without your consent. These areas include:
Find a Colleague
Participation in Find a Colleague is entirely optional. Should you elect
to participate, you will be required to provide information for your Colleague
Profile in order that others can find and contact you to share experiences
and exchange strategies. Since it is our policy not to divulge email addresses
to third parties, and to ensure the safety of participants, contacting
colleagues through Find a Colleague is anonymous for the recipient. All
emails sent to Find a Colleague members through the Colleague Search process
must go through our server and are then forwarded by us to the intended
recipient. Upon receiving the email, the recipient will see the email
address of the sender and will have the option of responding. The header
of such email will notify the recipient that the contact was made through
TeachingLD.orgs Find a Colleague feature.
Expert Connection/Feedback/Contact Us
Use of each of these areas is strictly voluntary. Should you elect to
submit a question for our Expert Connection, complete our Feedback form,
or send us an Email via our Contact Us page, all information provided
will be held in strict confidence unless you consent to use of certain
information as indicated at the time of submission.
TeachingLD News Sign-Up
TeachingLDs free newsletter keeps you up-to-date with announcements
about new content on our Site and news from the field of learning disabilities.
You must provide your name and email address in order to subscribe to
TeachingLD News. This information (name and email address) is not shared
with any third parties. You may unsubscribe from TeachingLD News at any
time. To unsubscribe, follow the directions at the bottom of any newsletter.
LD Discussion Forums and Postings
TeachingLD offers discussion forums in order to provide teachers and others
involved with the education of students with learning disabilities an
opportunity to exchange information, ideas, and opinions. Please see our
Guidelines before using
the discussion forums and make sure to post only information that you
are comfortable sharing. Please remember that any information that is
disclosed in these discussion forums becomes public information. BE ADVISED
THAT THE DIVISION FOR LEARNING DISABILITIES MAY NOT SCREEN, EDIT, OR REVIEW
POSTINGS PRIOR TO THEIR APPEARANCE ON TEACHINGLD, and Postings do not
necessarily reflect the views of the Division for Learning Disabilities.
The Division for Learning Disabilities reserves the right to monitor all
Postings and to remove any which it considers offensive or otherwise in
violation of our Guidelines.
Information
Collected From Your Use of Our Site
Aside from any information you may actively disclose to us, there is other,
less obvious, information which we might gain from you. Generally, we
use such information for internal purposes, such as to improve the content
of our Web pages.
Aggregate Information. Our system automatically gathers
information about the areas you visit on our Site. We use this information
in the aggregate to make our Site better. We may also share this aggregate
statistical information with other organizations, but in doing so, we
do not disclose individual names or personal navigational information.
Some examples of how this aggregate information is collected are as follows:
- Cookies. Cookies enable you to interact with TeachingLD. By
communicating with our site when you log in to Find a Colleague, LD
Discussions and/or the Members Only areas, cookies speed up and
ease your navigation, which prevents you from having to retype your
User ID and Password every time you return to these areas. Widely used
on the Internet, cookies have become an industry standard. Although
a cookie cannot, in and of itself, identify you, it can identify your
computer. Your Web browser is probably set up to accept cookies automatically.
If you wish to disable cookies, you may do so by adjusting the options
or preferences in your Web browser. However, by doing so, you will lose
some of the functionality of TeachingLD Web pages.
- IP Addresses. An IP address is a number that is automatically
assigned to your computer whenever you begin service with an Internet
Service Provider (ISP). TeachingLD collects IP addresses for the purposes
of system administration and to audit the use of our Site. Each time
you sign onto our Site and each time you request one of our pages, our
server logs your IP address.
HOW TO ACCESS YOUR COLLEAGUE PROFILE
INFORMATION
To access your Colleague Profile information you must first sign
in. After signing-in, click on My Colleague Profile in the left navigation

or updates you wish. To activate any changes, click on Save Changes at
the bottom of the profile form.
HOW TO ACCESS YOUR CEC MEMBERSHIP
NUMBER AND PASSWORD
Access to the Members Only area of TeachingLD requires that you
log in using your CEC membership number (user login) and password. Membership
numbers and passwords are assigned and maintained by the Council for Exceptional
Children. If you do not know your membership number/user login, call CECs
Constituent Services Center toll free at (888) 232-7733, TTY (703) 264-9446,
and ask them to look up your membership number (which is the same as your
user login). If you do not know your password, call CECs Constituent
Services Center at the number above and provide your name, CEC ID#, mailing
address, and daytime phone number. For security purposes and to protect
your privacy, CEC must verify your member record information before your
password can be released to you.

To update your Member Password for your Council for Exceptional Children
membership or to renew your CEC and DLD memberships online, please visit
